Janet Carithers

I have lived in Rural Hall since 1984 with my husband Steve and daughter Allison. I find Rural Hall a safe and family-oriented community with a lot of good people who care about their community.

I am a graduate of Parkland High School and has BS and MA Degrees from Appalachian State University.

I worked with Special Needs Learners for 34 years as a teacher, coach, yearbook sponsor, Special Populations Coordinator and Transition Coordinator in Ashe County, Greenville, SC and WSFC Schools. I Coached volleyball, basketball, and softball at South Park High School, and worked in Sports Medicine at North Forsyth High School. I retired in 2004 from the WSFC School System and started a career as a Case Manager for a mental health provider.

Previously, I coached softball and served on the board for the North Forsyth Little League. I was also a youth leader and chairperson of the Christian Education Committee at Rural Hall Moravian Church.

I currently am a member of the Rural Hall Area Business Association, the Rural Hall Garden Club, and the Rural Hall Senior Citizens Club. I have a passion for the preservation of Rural Hall History and the Rural Hall Historical Museum.

I love the Rural Hall Community, and the people who live in it.  I would like to see more businesses in Rural Hall, designate a historic district in town, keep property taxes low, expand facilities at Covington Park, update the Rural Hall Fire Department and explore the possibilities of a Community Center in Rural Hall.
