Ball Field

If you are interested in reserving the ball field at Covington Memorial Park or you have any questions in regards to reserving the field, please call 336-969-6856.  The ball field is operated on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please refer to the list of guidelines below for the use of the ball field.

GUIDELINES FOR HOURLY BALL FIELD RENTAL USE AND RULES
1. The field will be opened for rental or use from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M., Monday – Saturday; and 12:00 NOON to 10:00 P.M. on Sunday.
2. The fee for field rental will be $20.00 per hour to reserve the field for play, day or night.  Lights will be provided whenever necessary.  Fees must be paid prior to 12 noon on the date of the reservation at the Town Office during regular business hours (8:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday with the exception of Town recognized holidays).   If a reservation date falls on Saturday or Sunday, fees must be paid prior to 12 noon on Friday.  A reservation form will be issued once all fees have been paid.
3. During peak seasons (April 1 thru October 31), field rental may be limited to one night a week per team.
4. The person or group renting or using the field is expected to leave the area clean and in order.  Littering is forbidden; no food or glass containers are allowed on playing field.
5. Restrooms are to be monitored by the person who reserved the ball field to ensure that they are not abused.  The reserving group must provide toilet tissue and hand towels.
6. All rules contained in Ordinance #196 for the park shall apply to the use of the ball field.
7. No spectators shall be allowed inside the fence.
8. No vehicles shall be allowed inside the fence.
9. The ball field may be used, without a fee, on a “First Come, First Served” basis, as long as the ball field has not been reserved.  A one-hour time limit shall be in effect for any person or group using the ball field on a first come, first served basis.
10. It is always the option of the Town of Rural Hall to operate the concession stand for its own profit.

Tournaments

  1. A $100.00 nonrefundable tournament reservation fee, in addition to the total field rental, is required for tournaments and must be paid within 5 days of making the reservation.

  2. The Town will prepare the ball field once each day of the tournament.

  1. Confirmation for tournaments must be given to the Town by 9:00 AM the Thursday prior to the scheduled weekend tournament.  All other tournaments would require 24-hour notice.
  2. At least one officially sanctioned umpire, to be obtained by the tournament director, is required for the entire tournament.
  3. A certificate of insurance (COI), naming the Town as insured, is required to be on file with the Town prior to the start of the tournament.
  4. No admission may be charged nor donations solicited per Ordinance #196.
  5. A permit application for the sale of merchandise, drinks and/or prepackaged food sales must be submitted to and approved by the Town prior to the start of the tournament.

Persons failing to comply with Ball Field Rules and Regulations and General Park Regulations as set forth by the Rural Hall Town Council may be denied future use of the facilities.

Tennis CourtsTennis Court / Pickleball Court / Basketball Court

LIGHTS

To operate the lights at the tennis courts, do the following:

  • Push the button on the pole next to the gate.
  • It takes 5-10 minutes for the lights to come on.
  • Lights last for 1 hour.
  • Once the lights turn off, it may take longer than 5-10 minutes for them to come back on after the button has been pushed again.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Courts are to be opened from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.  EXCEPTION:  From mid-December to mid-March the courts will be open from 8:00 A.M. to dark.
  • Tennis shoes only are permitted.  Basketball, jogging, all-purpose or street shoes are strictly forbidden.  Scooters, roller-skates, roller-blades, skateboards, sleds and bicycles or tricycles are also strictly forbidden.
  • Play will be on a first come, first served basis.  All players must use the court control board to determine court and playing position.  Town sponsored tennis program (i.e. lessons and tournaments) will have priority.
  • A one hour time limit shall be in effect when others are waiting to play.
  • No spectators shall be allowed inside the fence.
  • Littering is forbidden; no food, drinks or glass containers shall be allowed inside the fence.
  • Neat dress and proper attire is required and tennis etiquette shall be observed at all times.
  • Players shall close gates when leaving.
  • All rules contained in Ordinance No. 196 for the park shall apply to the use of these courts.
  • Persons failing to comply with the Tennis Court Rules and General Park Regulations set forth by the Town Council of Rural Hall may be denied future use of the facilities.

Picnic Shelter

To make reservations, please call Town Hall at (336-969-6856). We allow one paid reservation per day.

PICNIC SHELTER RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Picnic shelter(s) will be used on a reservation basis with reservations being made through Town Hall at 336-969-6856, Monday – Friday from 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M.  EXCEPTION:  From mid-December to mid-March the shelter will be open from 8:00 A.M. until dark.
  • The picnic shelter may be used, without a fee, on a “First Come, First Served” basis, as long as the picnic shelter has not been reserved.  A three-hour time limit shall be in effect for any person or group using the picnic shelter on a first come, first served basis.
  •  Non-reservation users must leave immediately if the party who has reserved the shelter shows up.
  • Groups using the shelter or tables shall be responsible for cleaning up after use and shall be responsible for turning out the lights.
  • All rules contained in Ordinance #196 for the park shall apply to the use of this shelter.
  • Individuals or groups failing to comply with the Picnic Shelter and General Park Regulations set forth by the Town Council of Rural Hall may be denied future use of the facilities.

PICNIC SHELTER RESERVATION POLICY

The park remains open to the public when the picnic shelter is reserved.  The reservation is for the use of the picnic shelter only and for the allotted time shown on the picnic shelter reservation policy/agreement.

  • The picnic shelter may be reserved for a minimum of three (3) hours and a maximum of five (5) hours between 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 Noon and 9:00 PM on Sunday.  Only one reservation will be allowed per day.
  • Reservation holders may set up 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time and must have everything removed and the shelter cleaned 30 minutes after their scheduled time.
  • There will be a reservation fee of $50.00 for residents, businesses, churches and civic organizations inside the corporate limits of the Town of Rural Hall and a reservation fee of $100.00 for residents, businesses, churches and civic organizations outside the corporate limits of the Town of Rural Hall.  All payments must be made and an agreement signed within five (5) days after the reservation is made for a reservation to be confirmed.  Reservations must be made at least three (3) days in advance of the reservation date.  (No fee will be charged to Rural Hall Elementary School groups.)
  • The picnic shelter may be reserved only for groups having at least fifteen (15) people with a maximum of one hundred (100) people.  Any group exceeding the maximum of one hundred (100) people may be denied future use of the picnic shelter.
  • Trash is to be picked up around the picnic shelter and disposed of properly.  Groups must provide their own garbage bags and dispose of the bags by removing them from the park or by placing them in the receptacles provided.  Littering is prohibited.
  • Restrooms are to be monitored by the person who reserved the picnic shelter to ensure that they are not abused.  The reserving group must provide toilet tissue and hand towels.  Restrooms remain open to the general public.
  • Sound reproduction devices (loud speakers, etc.) and musical instruments are prohibited.  This does not apply to events sponsored by the Town of Rural Hall.
  • No open fires are allowed except in the designated grill located inside the picnic shelter.  Charcoal only may be used in the grill. Please do not leave the picnic shelter or park until grill fire is completely extinguished.  DO NOT place charcoal ashes in trash receptacles but remove them from the premises in proper containers.  Gas and charcoal grills are not permitted under the shelter or on wooden deck.
  • Picnic tables are to be picked up when being moved (Do Not Drag).  Tables are to be returned to their original arrangement.
  • If the picnic shelter, bathrooms, or surrounding area are damaged or left in disarray, a maintenance fee of $50.00/employee/hour will be charged.
  • Groups reserving the picnic shelter must not disturb or interfere with any person or party using any other area of the park or any person or party participating in authorized activities within the park.
  • No possession, consumption or display of alcohol or any controlled substance or  containers thereof  are allowed within the park. Any person under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance is prohibited in the park.
  • No smoking or use of vaping devices is permitted within the park.
  • No firearms or other dangerous weapons are allowed in the park.  This does not apply to law enforcement officers while engaged in the discharge of their duties.
  • No refunds will be given due to inclement weather or for cancellations.  Inclement weather dates may be rescheduled, if a date is available, but must be requested no more than two (2) workdays following the original reservation date.  Inclement weather must occur at the picnic shelter during the time reserved before a rain date may be rescheduled.
  • All rules posted at the park are to be followed.
  • Flagrant misuse of the park and recreational facilities will result in the forfeiture of future use and reservation privileges. Persons failing to comply with the rules of the shelter and park set forth by the Town of Rural Hall Board of Councilmen may be denied future use of the facilities.
  • Any damage to park facilities should be reported to Town Hall (336-969-6856) as soon as possible.  If you witness a crime or damage, call 911 immediately.

Walking Trails

  • .5 mile – This trail follows the perimeter of the park.
  • .25 mile – This trail starts at the picnic shelter, goes by the the lake, turns from the main trail behind the tennis courts and comes up around the tennis courts back to the picnic shelter.

GUIDELINES FOR WALKING TRAILS

  • Walking trails are open for use from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Monday – Sunday.  EXCEPTIONS:  Memorial Day – Labor Day 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.; mid-December – mid-February 8:00 A.M. to dark.
  •  The person or persons using the walking trails are expected to leave the area clean.  Littering is forbidden; no food, drinks or glass containers shall be allowed on the trails.
  • The person or persons using the walking trails will be expected to maintain discipline and order as prescribed in the Park Rules.  These rules are on file at the Town Office and are available upon request.
  • The walking trails were designed for WALKING only and joggers, runners, roller-skates, roller-blades, skateboards, bicycles, tricycles, scooters or any motorized vehicle are NOTpermitted on the walking trails.
  • Persons failing to comply with the Walking Trail Rules and General Park Regulations set forth by the Town Council of Rural Hall may be denied future use of these facilities.
  • Children under the age of 12 shall be accompanied by and supervised by an adult.
  • All rules contained in Ordinance No. 196 for the park shall apply to the use of the walking trail.

  • Persons failing to comply with the Tot Lot Rules and General Park Regulations set forth by the Town Council of Rural Hall may be denied future use of the facilities.
